If you are experiencing problems with your radiators, if you find the radiator is cool at the top and warmer towards the bottom this could mean that it has air in the system which can simply be rectified by bleeding the radiator.   If your radiators and boiler are noisy, if you find leaks coming from radiators, your radiators have cold patches particularly at the bottom or your central heating takes longer than expected to warm up then these may be signs that you need a power flush.  The system may have a build up of dirt which needs to be flushed out.  One of our plumbers can advise if a power flush is needed.

We understand that buying a new boiler is a big investment, and you need to be sure of getting it right. If your old boiler is costing you more to repair than it would to replace it, it may be time to say goodbye to an old friend and hello to a brand new model. Many manufacturers offer long warranties with new boilers, which will give you peace of mind. Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully, because most manufacturers, require an annual boiler service to be carried out to keep the warranty valid.

Combi (short for combination) boilers contain everything needed to heat your radiators and deliver hot water to your taps in one compact unit, saving valuable space in the home as there is no need for a hot water cylinder or water tanks in the loft.

A combi boiler heats water instantly when you turn on a hot tap. The water comes straight from the mains, so the flow rate at the tap is usually very good. And because it only heats the water you need, when you need it, it is extremely energy efficient.

Your Gas Safe registered heating engineer can survey your property and advise you on the most appropriate boiler to suit your needs.

Since the Building Regulations changed in April 2018, known as Boiler Plus, all boiler installations must include a timer and room thermostat.

The major components of the heating and hot water system, including the pump and expansion vessel, are built into the system boiler, and a sealed hot water cylinder in the system provides hot water for the taps and heats the radiators. There is no need for a feed or expansion cistern in the loft, which saves space and eliminates the risk of any leaks or frost damage to pipes and tanks.

System boilers provide a high flow rate of hot water to deliver quick filling baths or powerful showers, thanks to the in-built pump, without the water running cold elsewhere in the house. They are compatible with unvented hot water storage cylinders. Since the Building Regulations changed in April 2018, known as Boiler Plus, all boiler installations must include a timer and room thermostat.

Boiler repairs can be expensive and inconvenient, so for your own peace of mind, we advise you have your boiler serviced every year in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

An annual service is also a condition of some boiler warranties, so if you need a repair while your boiler is still under warranty, you will need to provide your annual service reports to show your warranty is still valid.

If you live in rented accommodation, your landlord is required by law to have your boiler serviced annually and to provide you with a Gas Safety Certificate.

You can’t see, smell or taste carbon monoxide so it’s very hard to detect without a CO alarm.  Symptoms of CO poisoning include headaches, nausea and vomitting, and in extreme cases, blackouts and convulsions.

The following household appliances are possible sources of carbon monoxide leaks around your home:

  • Gas Boiler
  • Gas Fire
  • Gas Cooker

Ideally, an alarm should be fitted in every room that contains a fuel burning appliance and for additional safety, fit one in each bedroom.

Regular servicing can keep you and your family safe, save you money and keep your warranty valid. Read more on the benefits of a boiler service.

Safety – all appliances that burn wood or fossil fuels (such as natural gas) could produce poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) if they are not working properly, so to keep your family safe, your Gas Safe registered engineer will check your boiler for CO.

Keep your warranty valid – our warranties require that your boiler is annually serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Failure to do so could invalidate your warranty, resulting in expensive repair bills, should your boiler break down.

Fewer breakdowns – as you would expect when you take your car for its MOT, when you have your boiler serviced, all the main components are checked for wear and tear, and replaced if necessary. That means that it is less likely to breakdown when you need it the most, particularly in the cold winter months.

Efficiency – a well-maintained and regularly serviced boiler will work more efficiently. This means you are using less fuel and reducing your energy bills.

An annual service will start with a visual check to ensure that the boiler and associated pipework is installed and positioned correctly. Your engineer will then check that your boiler is operating correctly and identify any initial problems. Then they will remove the boiler casing to look at its components. They will check the boiler is working safely and efficiently, and clean the components inside the boiler.

The engineer will check the following:

  • Correct gas pressure and flow
  • Flue and combustion. A flue gas analyser will be used to make sure    the boiler is burning the right mixture of gas and air and that the flue    is not blocked
  • Electrical connections are clean and in good condition
  • Fans and other key components are working efficiently
  • Seals are intact
  • Electrodes are in a good condition
  • Safety devices are checked
